DAY 1

Arrive in Sulmona

Arrive in Sulmona at the hotel for the check-in. After settling and relaxing with a welcome aperitif, walk through the historical center of Sulmona and dine in a local restaurant.

DAY 2

Saffron and wine

The day begins with a journey to the area of Navelli where the “Red gold” of Abruzzo, the saffron, has been cultivated since centuries. In the heart of that territory learn more about this fantastic product. Then move to the area of Capestrano to discover the typical and ancient crops of Abruzzo. Enjoy an exclusive tasting menu based on organic “zero kilometres” local ingredients. An excellence of the finest and most typical flavours of Abruzzo. Relax and enjoy the peace of the amazing landscape before visiting one of the most famous vineyards of the area. Discover the secrets of the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine and taste its unique flavours. The day ends in Sulmona with free time and dinner at  leisure.

DAY 3

The traditions of the mountain

This day is dedicated to the mountain and its farming activities. Abruzzo is the Italian region famous for centuries for its pastoralism economy. In the morning transfer to Scanno with a breathtaking suggestive drive through amazing ravines, suspended villages and colourful lakes. This evocative scene was mentioned in the nineteenth century by several romantic English and European travellers. The famous italian poet D’Annunzio also set one of his masterpiece “La fiaccola sotto il moggio” in the village of Anversa situated in that area. Visit a typical farm of Abruzzo and learn more about the traditional farming activities. After a traditional lunch in a farm to table restaurant, based on local products, spend the afternoon at your leisure to visit the village of Scanno. This wonderful pearl of Abruzzo is famous for its unique and refined gold manufacturing as well as its confectionery traditions. In the last century the village set the scene, due to its particular beauty, for photographers like Bresson. Return to Sulmona with free time and dinner at leisure.

 

 

DAY 4

Traditional cooking experience

Sulmona is famous in the world for its sweets called with the Italian name of “confetti”. The day begins with the visit of the oldest confetti factory in town to discover their soft aroma and the unforgettable taste. Later join the cooking teacher and start to shop in the famous old market of Sulmona. The location is one of the biggest squares of Italy. It is surrounded by mountains and it creates a unique and amazing scene. The market is a weekly traditional event and has been part of the local culture since the last centuries. While walking through this colourful market buy the ingredients for the cooking class. Experience the preparation of the traditional recipes of Abruzzo and enjoy the lunch prepared. Continue with free time to discover the village of Pacentro, an astonishing village dominating the Peligna valley. After an aperitif in this amazing Italian scene enjoy a dinner in a traditional local restaurant.

Farewell
